Webcams have been around for some time now and they were a means of conducting video chats with our near and dear ones up until a few years back. Then the blasts occurred and countries around the world decided that it was time webcams came into the security realms. Instead of using security cams that were costly to install and maintain, municipalities around the world switched over to webcams installed all over the city to keep live tab on the events in each sector and crossing.

These webcams have the advantage of broadcasting information over the internet rather than through wired connections and therefore the chances of failure because of transmission disturbance are reduced. The debate as to whether these webcams have made our daily life safer is still out in the open with one side arguing that traffic cams do not stop speeders neither deter them so why should webcams stop bombers? The supporters argue that while the webcams shall not deter anyone, the cost of operations and the simplicity of surveillance with webcams make it a viable choice over security cameras.

One can have twice the number of webcams installed for the same budget that is allocated to security cams and that means twice the coverage and twice the protection. The latest trend the world over is the emergence of websites that allow casual browsers to tap into the live feed of each webcam anywhere in the world just for fun. Since, these are webcams that are used over the internet to monitor roads and crossings, anyone on the internet can access the footage.
